For the last three years the Tri-County YMCA has put up a Christmas tree in the front lobby. The Lake Area Rotary Club puts on Candy Land for lake area kids. They put a kid's name, age, and three "wants" on a small piece of paper and tie it to a candy cane. The candy cane is then put on the Christmas tree. Each candy cane represents an underprivileged child in the lake area. Each of the past three years, Local 3987 donated $1000.00 to purchase gifts for this project. We have taken 30 or more names each of the past three years and have gone shopping for the Candy Land kids. We try to spend about $30-$33 on each child and try to get what they have asked for or close to it. This year we had a donor give us an additional $150. This year we dropped off gifts for 40 kids to the YMCA so they can get them wrapped and then distributed to the school that the child attends. The parents then picked up the gifts at the school to place them under their Christmas tree. Local 3987 helped give over 150 kids a better Christmas in a tough economic climate. A Special THANK YOU goes out to Osage Beach FPD A-Shift Captain Steve Lucas and his crew and family for making this possible for these children. We look forward to doing it again next year.
