  • 'Shop with a Fireman' hits local stores
    Posted On: Mar 02, 2014

The Lake Ozark Fire District held its 2nd Annual Shop With A Fireman event starting at the firehouse on December 15, 2011 at 5:30 PM.  Thirteen kids from 5 families that could use a helping hand met at the LOFD Headquarters on Bagnell Dam Boulevard to tour the fire trucks and set a game plan for an evening of shopping.  The children were then secured in the Heavy Rescue Truck and Engine and were taken on a shopping spree at Target, where they were also greeted with goody bags and slushies donated by the department store.  After the spree, Target also donated gift cards to the children for future use.  The next stop on our trip was Wal-Mart, whom generously donated $1000 to the program and other public safety needs.

The kids really enjoyed shopping for gifts with a firefighter of their choice and the firefighters also had a fun time.  Most of the firefighters came to the event off-duty to spend time with these children.  The success of this program is driven by dedicated firefighters and the help of the public and businesses with donations to the Shop With A Fireman fund.  The next fundraising event for this cause will be the 2nd Annual Guns and Hoses Charity Basketball Game between the fire district and police department,  which will be held March 23, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Heritage Building in Lake Ozark.  The basketball game will also benefit charities picked by Lake Ozark Police Department.  If anyone would like to donate to our cause and help underprivileged children, please contact Lake Ozark Fire Protection District.
